About Dot Cotton Crafts

About Dot Cotton Crafts

Inspired by nature, hand-crafted greetings cards and jewellery made specially for you.

Founded in 2015, Dot Cotton Crafts is Rachel Cotton's outlet for creativity. Coming from a long line of makers (currently five living generations of them!) Rachel has dabbled in many types of craft and is mainly self-taught. The business name came from her University days when her email address 'rachel.cotton@...' was read aloud, earning her the nickname 'Dot Cotton'! Whilst at University 'Dot' started making cards for family members as a way to save pennies and indulge in relaxing crafts, and began labelling them Dot Cotton Crafts. Little did she know this was to be her future business 10 years later.

Turning a lifelong hobby of crafting into a business,
'Dot' makes laser-cut  and fused glass jewellery and a range of hand printed greetings cards. Interested in the therapeutic nature of making and creating, Dot Cotton Crafts also runs craft workshops suitable for all abilities.

Dot Cotton Crafts products can be found online at Etsy and in the Sheffield Makers Hunters Bar, Sheffield Makers Winter Garden and Our Handmade Collective (Leeds) shops.

About the Founder

Picture
"I'm proud to be Sheffield-born-and-bread. It's the friendliest and greenest city in the UK, full to bursting with creative folk and inspiration."

Following a career supporting students in Higher Education, Rachel, embarked on a Masters course in Occupation Therapy, which further highlighted to her the importance of 'doing, making and creating' for physical and mental wellbeing. However, during her studies, Rachel experienced a great loss with the passing of her Father and difficulties with her own health. This challenge led her to apply the principals of OT to herself - so she occupied herself with the things she loved; making cards, gardening and spending time in the great outdoors. During this time, Rachel took a part-time job in one of Sheffield's most popular Florists, Moss and Clover. Surrounded by beautiful wild flowers and intricately designed terrariums, the concept of Dot Cotton Crafts started to take shape. The green city's abundant Parks and Gardens and nearby Peak District are a constant source of beauty and inspiration to Rachel, as are her incredibly supportive family and friends.
